UA receives $2 Million Matching Challenge from Zuckerman Family Foundation

The Zuckerman Family Foundation has issued a $2 million matching challenge to support scholarships and programs at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.

Mel and Enid Zuckerman, for whom the college was named in 2002, are the founders of Canyon Ranch Wellness Resorts. The Zuckermans’ have been committed to promoting optimal health and wellness for more than 40 years. Their vision for the college continues to be the establishment of a national presence in the areas of health education and health promotion.

“We are proud to make this matching gift to support student scholarships and programs. These funds will carry on our shared mission of empowering people to pursue health and wellness. It's always been our priority to reach out to underserved populations," Mel Zuckerman said. “This gift provides support for those students and programs that will impact our communities, now and in the future.”

With a focus on integrated approaches to community outreach, faculty and students, the UA Zuckerman College of Public Health continues to pursue new approaches to chronic disease prevention, public health preparedness, family and community wellness, and public health advocacy.  

“The kindness, generosity and steadfast support from the Zuckerman Family has enabled us to advance public health research, provide scholarship support and create community-based programs in our efforts to reduce health disparities that impact communities throughout the Southwest,” said Iman Hakim, MD, PhD, MPH, dean of the UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. “This generous gift proves once again the Zuckermans’ tremendous commitment to the college’s success and allows us to continue to broaden our impact on public health.”

Each gift will be matched by the Zuckerman Family Foundation. The generous support for this scholarship endowment will prepare the next generation of public health professionals and broaden our impact on public health in our community, the southwest and globally.
