Do you know a remarkable woman in medicine and science who has made a significant impact through her dedication, leadership, and compassion? We want to hear about her! We are now accepting nominations for the Most Inspiring Women in Medicine and Science 2024-25 Torchbearer Awards.
In 2023, there were 52 women honored from across the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. Of those, 11 were from the Department of Medicine – nine from the Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine, one from the Division of Inpatient Medicine and one from the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine.
This award honors exceptional women in medicine and science physicians who have inspired their colleagues, patients, community partners, learners, collaborators, and/or the broader medical community. Whether through groundbreaking research, education, innovative patient care, or unwavering advocacy, these women make a difference every day.
Nominees should be:
- COM-T faculty at ranks of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professors/Emeritus in basic science or clinical departments
- A role model for aspiring women in medicine and science.
- An example of integrity, perseverance, and determination.
- Committed to excellence with inspirational contributions to patient care, medical research, and/or education.
- Prior Torchbearer Awardees may be nominated again if they meet the above criteria
How to nominate:
- Provide the nominee's full name, title, and contact information.
- Write a brief description detailing why you believe this individual deserves the award (up to 300 words).
- Excellent nominations should include supporting discussion and/or testimonials that highlight specific examples of their inspiring work, achievements, and impact locally and beyond. Describe their creative and innovative strategies, their impact and inspiration as a role model. Multiple testimonials are welcome but not required (maximum up to 2,000 words).

The awards will be announced in early September to mark Women in Medicine Month. Remember to nominate your inspiring early-career women peers.
