Diabetes researcher Dawn Coletta, PhD, an associate professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, is the latest Department of Medicine faculty member to share their “Expert Insights” in a Health Sciences Connect video.
The video appeared in the Feb. 23 HealthSciences Connect newsletter and focuses on “Why Study Insulin Resistance?”
A founding member and associate director for clinical and translational genomics at the Center for Disparities in Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, Dr. Coletta joined the University of Arizona in August 2016. She also is an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and the Physiological Sciences Graduate Interdisciplinary Program and is a member of the UArizona Graduate Faculty.
Before UArizona, Dr. Coletta was an assistant professor in the Center for Metabolic and Vascular Biology at Arizona State University and, prior to that, in the Diabetes Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She earned her doctorate at Aston University in Birmingham, England, and did her post-doctoral training at UTHSCSA.
Her latest publications include “Exercise associated with younger methylome and transcriptome profiles in human skeletal muscle” (Aging Cell, January 2024), “Nonequilibrium thermodynamics and mitochondrial protein content predict insulin sensitivity and fuel selection during exercise in human skeletal muscle” (Frontiers in Physiology, July 2023) and “Association of Vitamin D Receptor Gene Polymorphisms with Cardiometabolic Phenotypes in Hispanics: A Life Course Approach” (Nutrients, April 2023).
