Dr. Elizabeth Juneman listed among 2024 Rising Star Women of Medicine

[Elizabeth B. Juneman, MD, FACC]Women We Admire, a membership organization comprised of accomplished women executives and leaders across the U.S. and Canada, included University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson cardiologist Elizabeth B. Juneman, MD, FACC, among the 2024 Rising Star Women of Medicine in a news item posted May 2.

Dr. Juneman had just handed off the reigns as interim chief of the Division of Cardiology and interim director of the Sarver Heart Center at the college to Hesham Sadek, MD, who was announced as the Center’s new director and Cardiology chief on April 29. An associate professor of medicine in the Cardiology division and Center member since 2004, she remains medical director of Banner – University Medicine Tucson’s advanced heart failure and transplantation program.

The publication named 25 top doctors and healthcare practitioners who are dedicated to providing quality patient care in their respective specialties and who are leading the charge in clinical services, community-focused healthcare, holistic medicine, and administrative and executive leadership.

Dr. Juneman joined UArizona’s faculty in 2007, working at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System. She served as SAVAHCS’ Heart Failure Program director and Echocardiography Lab director until 2015, when she joined Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and the UArizona Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Juneman is a key faculty lecturer and co-director in the Cardio-Pulmonary-Renal Block for first-year medical students. Her research interests are focused on women’s cardiovascular disease and cellular and mechanical remodeling in ischemic heart failure, with a particular interest in the functional and electrical integration of cell-based therapies. She earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and her medical doctorate at the University of Texas – Houston Health Sciences Center. Her residency and fellowship training were at UArizona.

In the local community, Dr. Juneman is active in the Tucson Chapter of the National Charity League, served on the Tucson Children’s Museum Board of Directors and is a member of the Charter 100 AZ nonprofit network for women leaders.
