Five DOM faculty in first class of COM-T, Eller Advanced Healthcare Leadership Academy

The Office of Faculty Affairs at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson announced July 17 who had successfully made it into the inaugural cohort of the Advanced Healthcare Leadership Academy, a collaborative venture by the college and the Eller College of Management and its Eller Executive Education Program.

Among those are five faculty members from the Department of Medicine:

• Tara Carr, MD | Professor, Clinical Scholar Track, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine;
• Janet Funk, MD | Professor, Tenured, Division of Endocrinology;
• Elizabeth Juneman, MD | Professor, Clinical Scholar Track, Division of Cardiology;
• Serena Scott, MD | Associate Professor, Clinical Scholar Track, and Clinical Chief, Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine; and
• Tejo Vemulapalli, MD | Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Series Track, and Chief, Division of Inpatient Medicine.

“Congratulations on your selection to this Leadership Academy!” said James K. Liao, MD, the Robert & Irene Flinn Professor of Medicine, chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and Banner – University Medicine Tucson.

The announcement by Allie Min, MD, assistant dean for faculty development at the Office of Faculty Affairs noted, “This is an exceptional group of faculty leaders who will participate in this exciting new program – engaging with Eller Executive Education to enhance leadership knowledge and skills, and building a community of colleagues working towards a shared goal of enhancing our leadership culture here at COM-T.”

The COM-T and Eller Advanced Healthcare Leadership Academy is a re-envisioning of the college’s Learning to Lead program, which hosted biannual cohorts from 2010 to 2022. Learning to Lead included 28 DOM faculty members as participants in that timeframe.

• Kathy Smith, MD | Professor, Educator Scholar Track, Department of Psychiatry;  
• Kim Tucker, MD | Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Series Track, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery;  
• Unni Udayasankar, MD| Professor, Clinical Scholar Track, Department of Medical Imaging; and
• Stephanie Worrell, MD | Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Series Track, Department of Surgery
