Christian Bime, MD, a University of Arizona assistant professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, has been named the new medical director of the Medical ICU (D3W) at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson. He replaces Gordon E. Carr, MD, who recently assumed the post of chief medical officer for the Banner - UMC Tucson and South hospitals.
Earlier this spring, Dr. Carr replaced Andy Theodorou, MD, who was picked as the CMO for the Banner – University Medicine Division, the academic division of Banner Health.
And kudos also to Esther J. Kim, MD, UA assistant professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and trauma resuscitation director for the Anesthesia Residency, who has taken over the directorship of the Cardiovascular ICU, or CVICU (4NW).
A new ICU director for Banner - UMC South will be named soon, said Dr. Carr. 
Dr. Bime joined the UA faculty in 2013 after completing his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He holds a master's of science degree in epidemiology from Michigan State University in East Lansing (2012) and a medical degree from the Université de Yaoundé, in Cameroon, where he graduated first in his class (2001). He completed his residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., and won honors there as best chief resident in ambulatory care (2009), a related teaching award (2009) and resident of the year (2007). Other honors include being chosen for an American Thoracic Society Minority Trainee Travel Award and an ATS Trainee Travel Award (2012), attendance at the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Fifth Fellows Conference (2010) and Chief Resident Immersion Training Program (2008), and an Excellence in Sarcoidosis Research Award from the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research/ACCP (2007). Dr. Bime has won multiple research grants and awards and has contributed multiple publications to pulmonary related journals.
Dr. Kim joined the UA faculty in January 2015. She had been a clinical associate at the University of Iowa in Iowa City since 2012 and director of the Resident Trauma Rotation since 2013. She completed her fellowship in Anesthesia Critical Care at the University of Iowa (2012) and a residency in the same there also (2011). She earned her medical degree from Brown University (2007) and a bachelor's degree in business economics (2002), both from Brown University in Providence, R.I. She has been a participant in the Certificate of Business Administration Program of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (2014) and the Midwest Anesthesiology Residents Conference (2011), where she presented on "Aspiration Druing Induction with Transhiatal Esophagectomy Presenting with Intestinal Obstruction."
