On June 29, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is convening a nationwide Cancer Moonshot Summit, including conversations in communities across the United States. 
These conversations, or Regional Summits, will be the first time that individuals and organizations representing the entire cancer community and beyond—researchers, oncologists, care providers, philanthropists, data and tech experts, advocates, patients and survivors—will all convene under the national charge to double the rate of progress toward a cure.
The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) has been invited to participate as a host site for the Summit, and we would like to invite you to participate with your local community as the Cancer Center and the nation share updates and discuss efforts to accelerate progress in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care. The Summit will include opening remarks from the UA’s Cancer Center Director Andrew S. Kraft, MD, lunch, connection with the national summit via live streaming to hear from the Vice President, slide show, and roundtable discussions facilitated by some of UACC’s cancer experts.
The goals of the Summit are to:
- Spur discussions throughout the country about the Moonshot Initiative, current work around cancer, and the potential for new collaborations
- Increase understanding of and participation in the Moonshot Initiative
- Create a formal mechanism for individuals and organizations representing all types of cancers to have direct engagement with the Moonshot Initiative
- Generate ideas and commitments to accelerate cures and end cancer as we know it
