As part of the research and education mission of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PACCS), the division hosts and co-hosts a number of events and an annual lecture series, the Winter Series Lung Conferences.

The Winter Series Lung Conferences (WSLC), held in conjunction with the UA Health Sciences Asthma and Airway Disease Research Center and UA BIO5 Institute, brings in nationally and internationally renowned physician-scientists to discuss the latest research in various fields of pulmonary medicine and share those emerging ideas and clinical advances with our faculty, fellows and residents in training at the UA Health Sciences colleges, as well as community physicians.

Desert Lung Conference
We also support related initiatives of other divisions and departments, such as the inaugural Desert Lung Conference, April 15-16, 2016, which was hosted at the JW Marriott Tucson Star Pass Resort by the UA Department of Surgery in conjunction with PACCS and focused on issues related to lung failure, lung surgery and lung transplantation. The lineup of speakers included several experts from our division such as James Knepler, MD, associate division chief, program director, Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship, and director, Interventional Pulmonology, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson; and Steven Knoper, MD, director, Lung Transplantation, Banner – UMC Tucson.
