Endocrinology Grand Rounds
Speaker: Suzette J. Bielinski, PhD, MEd, FAHA, Associate Professor and Senior Associate Consultant II-Research, with Master's Faculty Privileges in Clinical & Translational Science, in the Department of Epidemiology, at Department of Health Sciences Research, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
Topic: "Right Drug, Right Dose, Right Time - Using Genomic Data to Individualize Treatment (Right Protocol): Opportunities for Developing Drug Responses Phenotypes using Electronic Health Records."
These lectures are hosted by the UA Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in conjunction with the UA Health Sciences Center for Disparities in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism. They are open to the public, community health-care providers and clinicians as well as the media, although they're often generally directed at an academic medicine audience.
Dr. Bielinski is a cardiovascular genetic epidemiologist whose research focuses on identifying molecular biomarkers of cardiovascular disease. Specifically, she is interested in identifying genetic and protein biomarkers associated with heart disease, including heart attacks, heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms, that can be used clinically to improve risk prediction and identify tailored treatment and prevention strategies.
Dr. Bielinski uses research data from subjects enrolled in large cardiovascular cohort studies, such as the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), as well as clinical data collected from heart disease patients in southeastern Minnesota. Innovative methods, such as metabolomics and multiscale biology, are combined with traditional epidemiologic and statistical techniques to generate and analyze data.
In addition to a bachelor's degree in biology from the College of Saint Catherine (now St. Catherine University), St. Paul, Minn., she holds a doctorate in epidemiology and a master's degree in education from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
