The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson’s 23rd Annual White Coat Ceremony welcomed 120 new students into the Class of 2021 at Centennial Hall on Friday evening, July 21.
The colorful ceremony is designed to honor new medical students as they accept responsibility in the doctor-patient relationship. Each student receives their first white coat, courtesy of the generosity of UA College of Medicine – Tucson alumni, faculty and friends.
Donors also provided each student with the funds to purchase a stethoscope as well as a Humanism in Medicine pin, this last item as a gift symbolizing a shared commitment to compassionate patient care from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation— initiators of the first White Coat Ceremony in 1993.
Archived video of the ceremony can be viewed at this link.
Among those attending from the UA Department of Medicine were Drs. John Bloom, George Fantry, Lori Fantry, Monica Kraft (department chair), Frank Marcus, Kevin Moynahan, Prabir Roy-Chaudhury, Raed Sukerji and Andrew Yeager.
UA Sarver Heart Center member Art Sanders, MD, and first-year Infectious Diseases fellow Norm Beatty, MD, also attended.
