Banner – University Medical Center and the University of Arizona Department of Surgery at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson are pleased to introduce two new surgeons to Southern Arizona this fall.
Kenneth A. Fox, MD
Pediatric and Adult Cardiac Surgeon Specializing in Congenital Heart Disease
Dr. Fox, a UA clinical assistant professor of surgery, specializes in the surgical repair of congenital heart defects in children and adults. He comes to Tucson from Austin, Texas, where he had a successful private practice for 15 years. He also served as medical director of the Children’s Regional Heart Program at the Children’s Hospital of Austin and the Dell Children’s Medical Center, also in Austin.
Dr. Fox earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Arizona. He then completed a thoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan and a pediatric cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan.
He is board certified in surgery, thoracic surgery and congenital heart surgery.
“We are pleased Dr. Fox has joined the cardiothoracic surgical team at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson. His expertise in congenital heart surgery for both pediatric and adult patients will allow for the continued growth and expansion of our already strong program in congenital heart surgery,” said David A. Bull, MD, chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
In addition to his appointment in the UA Department of Surgery, Dr. Fox will be a member of the UA Sarver Heart Center and the UA Department of Pediatrics.

Amanda Arrington, MD
Cancer Surgeon
Dr. Arrington, a clinical assistant professor in the UA Department of Surgery, joined the department’s Surgical Oncology Team Aug. 1 from Marshall University’s Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Dr. Arrington is board certified in general surgery and in surgical oncology, specializing in the treatment of a wide range of cancers, including stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, skin, endocrine and breast cancer and soft-tissue sarcoma.
With the arrival of Dr. Arrington, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson is able to provide Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) to patients with certain complex abdominal cancers.
In HIPEC, the surgeon removes all visible tumors from the abdomen, then pumps a heated chemotherapy drug through the abdominal cavity to kill any remaining cancer cells. The procedure minimizes chemical exposure to the rest of the body, reducing the side effects of chemotherapy.
Dr. Arrington earned her medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency at the University of Minnesota, where she also received fellowship training in surgical infectious disease. She then completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif.
In addition to her role on the Surgical Oncology Team, Dr. Arrington will serve as the UA Department of Surgery’s associate director of community outreach.
To schedule an appointment with Dr. Arrington, please call 520 694-2873.
