The University of Arizona Arthritis Center got additional air time on May 10 for its 2018 Bear Down Luncheon, which was held the previous day at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, from KVOA Channel 4 and sports anchor Paul Cicala.
The annual event raises hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to help fund research into arthritis and other rheumatologic afflictions.
UA Athletics traditionally partners with the center for the festivities and this year was no different. Dave Heeke (right), the UA vice president for athletics, was the guest speaker.
Cicala (on right at left), who also is a volunteer at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and emceed the luncheon, gave reports on it that aired multiple times that evening and the following morning—including a live at-the-desk report at 10 p.m.
The UA Arthritis Center is affiliated with the UA Division of Rheumatology, one of 14 divisions in the UA Department of Medicine—the largest department at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson. Both are headed by C. Kent Kwoh, MD (above left), division chief and center director.
