As the American Medical Association is recognizing September as “Women in Medicine Month,” so too are University of Arizona Health Sciences colleges, departments, divisions and centers and institutes.
For instance, the UA BIO5 Institute via it’s Twitter account put the spotlight on Roberta Diaz 
Brinton, PhD, a noted neuroscientist, director of the UA Center for Innovation in Brain Science, and an innovative leader in Alzheimer’s research and development of therapeutics to prevent, delay and treat the disease.
Dr. Brinton will speak Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the final Doc Talks lecture for the fall version of the series on the topic of “Aging for Life – Dodging Neurodegenerative Diseases.” It starts with a reception and wellness expo at 5 p.m. at the Westin La Paloma resort, 3800 E. Sunrise Dr. The talk begins at 6 p.m.
A Memo for You
Nancy K. Sweitzer, MD, PhD, has been recognized twice. That includes once Sept. 25 by the UA College of Medicine – Tucson via Twitter and again on Sept. 21 by Alejandra Zapien Hidalgo, MD, an assistant professor and outreach program coordinator in the Department of Family & Community Medicine, who has been highlighting several prominent college female faculty members in the morning “UAHS Announcements” email as a member of the college’s Women in Academic Medicine interest group.
Dr. Zapien’s memos, which started Sept. 18, are under the theme: "Celebrating Our Legacy, Embracing Our Future."
In them, she notes: “Each September, the American Medical Association recognizes the influence and contributions of women in medicine with their ‘Women in Medicine Month’ campaign. In celebration, WAM will shine the spotlight on some of the extraordinary female researchers and physicians whose work and leadership have inspired many here at the University of Arizona.”
