UA Functional Genomics Core Integrates with Arizona Center for Drug Discovery

Pipetting in the Functional Genomics Core lab at the UA BIO5 InstituteThe University of Arizona Functional Genomics Core (FGC) now is integrated with the Arizona Center for Drug Discovery, providing resources for investigators conducting research in molecular biology to run live cell, biochemical and other assays.

The FGC specializes in conducting high-throughput drug/compound screens, RNAi screens, yeast/microbial deletion library screens, and the automation of repetitive molecular biological protocols for the purpose of network analysis, drug and target discovery. Laboratory equipment also is available for general (low-throughput) use.

You’ll now also find a webpage for the FGC at the center’s website at this link.

Illustration of completed construction for UA's Arizona Drug Discovery CenterHoused in the UA College of Pharmacy, the Arizona Center for Drug Discovery (ACDD) creates the necessary infrastructure to bridge UA researchers with pharmaceutical partners to establish a collaborative environment to advance novel disease intervention findings beyond the laboratory setting. The center works with faculty members and established scientists at the UA to assemble teams around shared research projects in drug discovery and development. Faculty members also have access to mentorship and guidance regarding how to get started in drug discovery.

Construction of the $26-million, 30,000-square-foot Arizona Drug Discovery Center (see architectural rendering at right) began in September 2018 and is expected to be complete in July 2019. For updates, see this link (click on "Skaggs Building tab, top left, or Skaggs Webcam, bottom right).

If you would like to add your research to ACDD’s portfolio, complete a project proposal form and submit to Jamie McKay (mckay@pharmacy.arizona.edu). See below for a list of services, instrumentation and location, staff and lab member links.
