Sept. 30 – Oct. 18, 2019

Join clinical colleagues from around North America preparing to go abroad.
Be optimally prepared for the clinical and resource challenges before you go. With many residencies encouraging — even requiring — global health clinical experience, you will enhance your effectiveness and learning in your developing-nation rotation with this advance preparatory course, where the collegial interaction, lively discussions and demonstrations by clinicians from several specialties make this an experience that can’t be duplicated.
What — and who — is in this Global Health Course?
This Arizona Global Health course, begun in 1982 and revised annually, is a small-group, case-oriented interactive preparation for residents and senior medical students planning a clinical and/or public health experience in a low-income nation (see video at bottom of this page). Faculty from a dozen clinical and public health areas, each with extensive “on-the-ground” experience in developing nations, guide participants in adapting clinical skills to resource limitations, regardless of clinical specialty.
Where: University of Arizona Health Sciences campus in Tucson
Enrollment is limited to 30 participants: This enables small-group case discussions and demonstrations with clinical faculty mentors — which occupies approximately 25 percent of our 80 class hours.
Scheduling your residency year: Because the course runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, participating clinicians can do some cross-cover or night call, but should not expect to do other clinical rotations during this time.
Residents who need to do continuity clinics may be excused one afternoon per week [Friday or Thursday afternoon] for their clinic.
Enrollment procedures: Fully explained on our website — http://globalhealth.arizona.edu/clinical-community-care-course
Deadlines: Enrollment info should be received by Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019.
This course will be held again May 11-29, 2020.
