Dr. Hinestroza joined the faculty of the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson in September 2023. A native of Colombia, she earned her medical degree in 2009 at the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, in Pereira which lies midway between Medellin and Cali west of Bogotá. Afterward, she worked as a rural physician at the Centro de Salud El Carmen de Darien, Colombia, near the border with Panama. Then, she moved to Quibdó, Colombia, where she served as a physician coordinator with a mobile health unit and as a general physician for the Colombian Red Cross. Following that, she was a general physician at Santa Monica Hospital in Dosquebradas, Colombia. Dr. Hinestroza completed her internal medicine residency training at Jefferson Health Northeast/Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and her infectious diseases fellowship training at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester.
