Flag-raising ceremony part of Veterans Day honors

[College of Medicine – Tucson Veterans Day flag-raising and blessing ceremony, Nov. 9, at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.] The University of Arizona College of Medicine Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Banner – University Medicine in Tucson hosted a flag-raising and blessing ceremony this morning in honor of Veterans Day.

[Flyer for College of Medicine – Tucson Veterans Day flag-raising and blessing ceremony, Nov. 9, at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson.] The event was held at the front entrance of Banner – University Medical Center Tucson at 8 a.m. A reception followed at the VETS Center in the University of Arizona Health Sciences Library.

The blessing ceremony was led by Carlos Gonzales, MD, a former faculty member of the Department of Family & Community Medicine who now is part of the Global MD Program at UArizona Health Sciences, and his wife Deborah.

The ceremony and reception were held Thursday because most university employees have Friday off for the Veterans Day holiday.

The 2023 Tucson Veterans Day Parade will take place Friday, Nov. 10, as the holiday falls on a Saturday this year. The parade route will be around the Tucson Convention Center. The theme for this year's parade is Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans. Click here for a map of the parade route and related road closures.

Free veterans admission to the Tucson Zoo and discounts for family members, Saturday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
At Catalina State Park, the Veterans Day Holualoa Reverse the Course 5- & 10-Mile Trail Races + 5K Road Run, Sunday, Nov. 12, 7:30-10 a.m.
