The Thomas D. Boyer Liver Institute’s latest newsletter includes a staff profile of Jason Gass, a research data support specialist, who began at the institute in 2016, shifted to the UArizona Cancer Center in 2018 and returned in 2021.

The newsletter also notes June 13 is Global Fatty Liver Day, previously known as International NASH Day. The disease affects over 115 million people worldwide. See a YouTube video in the newsletter to see if you or a patient may be at risk.

Photos spotlight the institute’s recent outreach efforts for free Hep-C screenings at the Tucson House high-rise residential building monthly, South Kino Sports Complex Health Fair at the invitation of the Consulado de Mexico, and at the Cochise County Health & Social Services Building in Bisbee, Arizona.

Additional information is furnished on clinical trials, policy briefs on HAV and HBV, a Los Angeles outbreak of HAV, a proposed federal 5-year plan to eliminate HCV, Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and other current studies. [Geoffrey D. Block, MD, MSc, FACP]
