About the Presenter:
Dr. Marc Orbach is a fungal geneticist and molecular biologist in the School of Plant Sciences at the University of Arizona and a member of the Valley Fever Center for Excellence. He received his BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Michigan and his PhD also in Biological Sciences, from Stanford University, with a focus on the molecular genetics of Neurospora crassa. Dr. Orbach came to UA after post-doctoral research at the Dupont Experimental Station, focusing on molecular genetics of virulence in the rice blast pathogen, Magnaporthe oryzae. His laboratory studies the mechanisms of virulence of fungal plant and animal pathogens, including M. oryzae, Aspergillus flavus and Coccidioides. His work studying Coccidioides virulence factors led to the discovery and development of the delta-cps1 vaccine against coccidioidomycosis.
