Presenter: Nicholas J. Shaheen, MD, MPH is the Bozymski-Heizer Distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and the senior associate dean for clinical research at the UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He is principal investigator of UNC’s Clinical and Translational Science Award, and Director of NC TraCS, the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute that serves as home of UNC’s CTSA. Dr. Shaheen’s research interests center on gastroesophageal reflux disease and pre-cancerous and cancerous conditions of the esophagus, including endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s esophagus. He has authored more than 400 publications on these topics. Dr. Shaheen also is PI on multiple NIH grants investigating aspects of esophageal disease.
