Presenter: Shailja Shah, MD MPH is an asociate professor of medicine at the University of California San Diego, staff gastroenterologist at VA San Diego Health Care, and a member of the Cancer Control Program at Moores Cancer Center. Dr. Shah’s research and public policy initiatives promote gastric cancer prevention and early detection efforts, such as gastric cancer screening and preneoplasia surveillance, among high-risk groups. She and her research team conduct large-scale epidemiological studies, decision-model analyses, and translational studies evaluating the interaction of gene x environment interactions on gastric cancer risk. Dr. Shah is the recipient of the 2022 American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Early Investigator Award in Clinical Science and several other research awards. She also is the first or senior author for several national guidelines or clinical practice updates related to H. pylori and surveillance of gastric premalignant conditions commissioned through the AGA and American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), including the most recent 2024 ACG guidelines on H. pylori management. Dr. Shah's research has been funded by the NIH, VA, and AGA.
