Presenter: Dr. Clara N. Curiel-Lewandrowski is a leading dermatologist specializing in skin cancer prevention, early detection, and photobiology. She serves as Interim Director of Research at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, Co-Director of the Skin Cancer Institute, Chief of Dermatology, and Director of the Cutaneous Oncology Program. She also holds the Alan and Janice Levin Family Endowed Chair for Excellence in Cancer Research.  Dr. Curiel-Lewandrowski earned her medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1992. She completed a dermatology residency through the combined Boston University and Tufts University program. Further enhancing her expertise, she pursued fellowships in skin photobiology at the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and in tumor biology at the Ludwig Boltzman Institute in Germany. Since joining the University of Arizona in 2004, Dr. Curiel-Lewandrowski has been instrumental in advancing research and clinical practices in skin cancer. Her research interests encompass photobiology, early skin cancer detection, biomarker development, and primary prevention. She has led and participated in numerous clinical studies and trials, addressing critical gaps in skin cancer prevention and early detection through innovative study designs and effective execution. In her leadership roles, Dr. Curiel-Lewandrowski fosters multidisciplinary collaborations across various departments, including the College of Optical Sciences, Bioengineering, and Radiology, to evaluate novel imaging modalities in the skin cancer arena. She has also been recognized for her contributions to the field, being voted among the "Best Doctors in America" in multiple years and receiving awards such as the Levin Family Endowed Chair for Excellence in Cancer Research. Her extensive clinical experience, combined with a robust research portfolio, underscores her commitment to advancing skin cancer prevention and treatment.
