Designed to explore the application of basic science research results to the development of new understandings of disease mechanisms, diagnoses and therapeutics. Translational medicine is the movement of ideas from the basic science laboratory to the clinical arena, using multidisciplinary, highly collaborative “bench-to-bedside” approaches that ultimately benefit patients and the community at large.

The symposium is hosted by the Division of Hematology & Oncology’s Jennifer S. Carew, PhD, professor of medicine and clinical translational sciences, director of translational research and director of investigator initiated clinical trials for the College of Medicine – Tucson and will feature a keynote address, a competition for the best translational research concept, a graduate student research poster competition, and presentations directly relevant to translational medicine.

Join us for a faculty spotlight featuring the Division of Rheumatology’s Joshua Farr, PhD, as he outlines a 'pathway of entry' detailing his journey in translating basic science discoveries into real-world applications. The event will also include a rapid-fire data blitz from Infection and Inflammation as Drivers of Aging T32 Scholars and an overview of the Center for Advanced Molecular & Immunological Therapies (CAMI) by the Department of Immunobiology’s Deepta Bhattacharya, PhD, highlighting collaboration opportunities and future directions for the center. More details about additional speakers coming soon.
