GGP Division news: Fab 50 nurse, SGIM National Women’s Caucus chair, CPC Pilot Award winner and new Societies Mentor

[Banner's 14 Fabulous Fifty nurses in Tucson, including Dr. Abby Fuoto (front & center, first row), to be honored for National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2025]Abby Fuoto, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP, ACHPN, a special instructor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson’s Department of Medicine and a U of A Cancer Center member, was chosen as a Tucson Fabulous 50 nurse for 2025, on behalf of the Tucson Nurses Week Foundation Board of Directors.

[Abby Fuoto, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP, ACHPN]Dr. Fuoto received her BSN at the University of Virginia. She pursued her MSN and nurse practitioner education at Arizona State University. She then earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Duke University. She is board certified as an adult nurse practitioner, an oncology nurse practitioner, and as a hospice and palliative care nurse practitioner. She specializes in complex symptom management for patients with advanced cancer, often treating those with head-and-neck cancer and managing their symptoms in a supportive care clinic. [Image of flyer for 2025 National Nurses Week activities in Tucson]

Dr. Fuoto and this year’s other Fab 50 nurses, including 14 total from Banner – University Medicine Tucson, will be recognized during National Nurses Week 2025 – May 6-May 12. Tucson celebrations include a Conference & Health Fair, May 9, and a Nurses Week Gala, May 10, at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.

  • Indu Partha, MD, associate professor in General Internal Medicine, GGP Division, an Internal Medicine Residency – Tucson associate program director and vice chair, Academy of Medical Education Scholars (AMES), U of A College of Medicine – Tucson, was named chair of the SGIM National Women’s Caucus at the Society of General Internal Medicine(link is external)[Indu Partha, MD, Anna Morenz, MD, MPH, and Kris Abbate, MD]
  • Anna Morenz, MD, assistant professor in General Internal Medicine, GGP Division, was the recipient of the U of A Cancer Center’s CPC FY25 Pilot Award given through its Cancer Prevention & Control Program. A primary care physician, she’s developing a research program focused on addressing inequities in cancer screening.
  • Kris Abbate, MD, assistant professor, General Internal Medicine, GGP Division, DOM IM Sub-Internship associate program director, and a COM-T Youth Program medical director, was selected as a Societies Mentor by the College of Medicine – Tucson. The Societies Mentorship houses are how the college manages medical students and their needs as they work their way toward becoming the next generation of physicians produced by the University of Arizona.
