John T. Cunningham, MD

Dr. John Cunningham is a board-certified gastroenterologist who practiced in Tucson from 2001-2017. Before that, he spent many years at Medical University of South Carolina (1976-1985 and 1996-2001), interupted by a stint he did at the Dr. Peter B. Cotton Middlesex Hospital in Londin, UK, in 1985. He retired in as the Samuel and Winnifred “Quiggy” Witt Endowed Chair in Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and was awarded Professor Emeritus status afterward.

Dr. Cunningham received his medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia in 1970. His completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a chief flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force between 1971 and 1973.

Dr. Cunningham was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. He also has membership in the American Gastroenterological Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology. His clinical and research interests focused closely on pancreatic cancer, in particular mucin producing tumors of the pancreas.
