Research

Aging is the quintessential interdisciplinary issue, cutting across basic sciences, cognitive, clinical/translational and health services research — invigorating and bridging research across the campus, across colleges and across the state. Remarkably, the aging process itself – what actually happens on the biochemical, genetic, cellular and physiologic levels remains largely unknown. Differentiating “normal” aging changes in these processes from signs of potential disease are fundamental to our understanding of healthy aging and resilience. Our Division and the University of Arizona Center on Aging are uniquely positioned and have actively initiated programs to address these critical issues.

Some of Our Work

Among research projects that our faculty and staff have been involved with are the following:

Current Clinical Trials

Clinical trials often involve a research study conducted to evaluate a medical procedure or medical product, such as a drug. Not all University of Arizona studies involve drugs or interventions. Some studies use surveys or evaluate medical records to find new and better ways to help people. Others recruit healthy subjects, or controls, to better evaluate and compare their results with those of non-healthy subjects. For UArizona clinical research studies currently accepting subjects, see the following topics related to our Division:

How to Participate

Whether you’re a potential candidate to participate as a patient or subject in the study, you would like to participate as a “healthy volunteer” for the control group or you’re a research or clinical professional interested in collaborating with the research team — simply contact the study coordinator listed for each individual clinical research study at the links above.
