Monica R. Vandivort, MD, was presented with the 2018 House Call Physician of the Year Award by the American Academy of Home Care Medicine (AAHCM) at the AAHCM Awards Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 26, at the AAHCM Annual Meeting in Rosemont, Ill., near Chicago.
This award is the highest honor bestowed by the academy and recognizes pioneering physicians who are bringing house calls back into the medical care mainstream. It and other awards were announced in the academy’s Nov. 12 e-newsletter.
Dr. Vandivort is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Geriatrics, General Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and a faculty member for the UA Reynolds Program in Applied Geriatrics at the UA Center on Aging. She is a board certified internal and geriatric medicine physician and a certified medical director in long-term care.
As a physician in Banner University Medical Group, she has over 20 years of experience in providing primary care in clinic settings, nursing home and assisted living sites, and at home primarily in Cochise County.
As medical director for Home Care at Banner – University Medical Group in Southern Arizona, Dr. Vandivort is a leader and champion for the development of home-care programs, rural health issues for elders and guiding health system change.
She earned her medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, where she did her internship, followed by her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in geriatric medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
To her patients and families, her colleagues, her trainees and members of her community, Dr. Vandivort is the beloved and welcoming face of home care medicine.
The award was presented to Dr. Vandivort by AAHCM Director Barbara Sutton, APN ACHPN (pictured in the first and second to last photo below), who also introduced her.
Mindy Fain, MD, (pictured with Dr. Vandivort in the last photo below), chief of the UA Division of Geriatrics, General Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine, co-director of the UA Center on Aging and the Anne and Alden Hart Endowed Chair in Medicine, is the immediate past president of AAHCM.
