Dr. Jil Tardiff honored with select lectureship at AHA Scientific Sessions

Tardiff, MD, PhD, FAHA, a professor in the Department of Medicine’s Division of Cardiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and member of the Sarver Heart Center and BIO5 Institute, was selected to present the Thomas W. Smith Memorial Lecture by the American Heart Association’s Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences.

[Jil C. Tardiff, MD, PhD, FAHA]Dr. Tardiff – whose research focuses on the myocellular pathogenesis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the most common cause of sudden cardiac death in young people – will receive the award at the organization’s 2024 Scientific Sessions, Nov. 16-18, at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center.

At the sessions, she is presenting on “Atrial and Ventricular Cardiomyocytes,” “Small Perturbations, Big Effects: Elucidating and Targeting the Molecular Mechanisms of Sarcomeric Cardiomyopathies” and “Unveiling Novel Insights in Cardiac Remodeling Regulatory Pathways.”

The Thomas W. Smith Memorial Lecture is one of a series of AHA council-named lectures from some of today’s foremost clinicians and researchers as well as those with a lifetime of contributions to the field of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Tardiff also is a professor in the College of Medicine – Tucson’s Department of Cellular & Molecular Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering in the U of A College of Engineering. In addition, she's the U of A Steven M. Gootter Endowed Chair for the Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death.
