Samuel Keim, MD, MSc, chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, announces the appointment of Jarrod Mosier, MD, professor of emergency medicine, as the vice chair of research for the department. This is the second vice chair ever appointed in the department.

Dr. Mosier joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2007 as a resident, and he began a fellowship in critical care medicine – hosted by the Department of Medicine’s Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine – here in Tucson in 2010. He joined the department as an assistant professor in 2012 before earning a promotion to associate professor in 2016 and professor in 2023.
He has had a secondary appointment in the Department of Medicine as associate program director for the Critical Care Medicine Track, a two-year program within the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, since 2012.
“I look forward to working with our faculty to expand our research portfolio and success with a new research strategic mission that will enhance our faculty’s academic well-being and our department’s standing,” Dr. Mosier said.
Dr. Mosier is board-certified in emergency medicine, critical care medicine and neurocritical care medicine, and he brings extensive research success individually and as a collaborator. Dr. Mosier has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters, and his research has been continuously funded by NIH, foundations and industry for many years.
Dr. Mosier is currently the University of Arizona principal investigator for SIREN, the NIH’s premier emergency care research network, and was recently appointed to the national SIREN oversight committee. He has built an innovative research laboratory that collaborates with scientists from multiple colleges, looking at the origins, evolution, and treatments for respiratory failure.
Dr. Mosier has earned numerous teaching and mentoring awards during his time at the College of Medicine – Tucson, including a Presidential Citation from the Society of Critical Care Medicine in 2017. Dr. Mosier acted a member of the Dean’s Research Council from 2020-2022.
