DOM to take 2 of 3 research awards at College of Medicine – Tucson ceremony, Feb. 27

The latest awards, which focus on research, go to:

Clinical Investigator Award

Basic and Translational Investigator Award

Dr. Scott, an associate professor and co-program leader with Steffan Nawrocki, PhD, of the Clinical and Translational Oncology Program at the U of A Cancer Center, is a medical oncologist specializing in translational research and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. His research focuses on discovery of novel treatment(s) for patients with GI cancers with an emphasis on colorectal cancer.

A Center for Disparities in Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism, Cancer Center and BIO5 Institute member, Dr. Stern is an assistant professor with other appointments in the Departments of Physiology and Cellular and Molecular Medicine. She leads a NIH-funded research program focused on understanding the role of glucoregulatory hormone signaling in the pathogenesis of obesity, Type II diabetes mellitus, and aging. The goal of her lab’s research is to improve prevention and treatment of diabetes and age-related metabolic disorders.

These research awards bring the total number of honors being proffered to 68, with 19 for faculty or programs in the Department of Medicine.
