Kudos to the University of Arizona Division of Cardiology fellows who won the American College of Cardiology – Arizona Chapter 2025 Fellows Jeopardy competition and will be recognized at the ACC-AZ Chapter Annual Meeting & Valley of the Sun Heart Symposium hosted this Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Gila River Hotel Convention Center at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, Arizona.

The competition actually was held in Phoenix on Jan. 11. The winning team – Khurram Butt, MBBS, Abdulbaril Olagunju, MD, and Muhammad “Ijaz” Pervez, MBBS – will compete in the Jeopardy nationals competition during the ACC.25 Annual Scientific Sessions in Chicago, March 29-31. Drs. Butt and Pervez are program year 6 (PGY6) fellows in their third and final year of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship. Dr. Olagaunju (PGY5) is in his second year of the fellowship.

“It was fun!” Dr. Butt said. “Basically, we had a mix of questions from cardiovascular imaging, electrophysiology and general cardiology. It came down to electrophysiology. We just took the lead and kept it after that.”

Dr. Butt, who also did his internal medicine residency here at the U of A College of Medicine – Tucson and served as a hospitalist here for three years, added that everyone is excited to go to Chicago for nationals, where Nathaniel “Nathan” Kim, MD, a PGY5 Cardiovascular Disease fellow, had a poster accepted for the ACC national conference competition as well.
