Lymphoma and leukemia will be the topic of discussion at the next Open House at the UA Cancer Center – North Campus, 3838 N. Campbell Ave., on Friday, Sept. 9, 5-7 p.m. The theme of the event is “Lymphatic Cancer & Leukemia.”
Presenters will be Daniel Persky, MD, a UA associate professor, associate director of Clinical Investigations, director of the Clinical Trials Office at the UA Cancer Center whose research focuses on lymphoid malignancies, such as lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and others, and Ravi Krishnadasan, MD, assistant professor of clinical medicine and a member of the BMT-Leukemia Multidisciplinary Clinic team at the UA Cancer Center. Both Dr. Persky and Dr. Krishnadasan are faculty members within the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the UA Department of Medicine.
Lymphatic cancer starts in cells that are part of the body’s immune system—our disease-fighting network, according to the American Cancer Society. This includes the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus gland and bone marrow. The main types of lymphoma are Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes, fatigue, and weight loss. Treatment may involve chemotherapy, medication, radiation therapy, and rarely stem-cell transplant.
Light refreshments and soft entertainment will be provided.
