Congratulations to the 97 University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson graduating medical students who matched March 15 on Match Day 2019 into residency physician training programs. Eighteen of them matched into internal medicine residency programs here and around the nation, and 46 total matched into those programs at the UA Department of Medicine. “I couldn't be more proud of the wonderful match results for our students in Internal Medicine and Dermatology,” said Amy Sussman, MD, associate chair for education, clerkship director and associate professor in the UA Department of Medicine, and director of the Nephrology Fellowship Program. “Not only did our students match into some of the most competitive of programs, we were able to keep some of our fantastic talent here at the UA!”
Thirty-eight of the 46 internal medicine matched into UA Internal Medicine Residency Programs (28 at Tucson Campus and 10 at South Campus) as categorical residents who will complete their residency here, and eight as preliminary interns who’ll move on to other residency programs after a preliminary year here. All begin their residency training in July 2019.
Of the eight interns, one will go to the UA Advanced Dermatology Residency Program and four will go to the UA Anesthesia Residency Program in July 2020. Two others matched into the Dermatology program from outside the UA who will complete their internship elsewhere and begin their UA residency in 2020.
In all, of the UA medical students in the Match, 39 will complete their residencies in Arizona, including 27 in Tucson and eight in primary care. Twenty-seven matched into UA College of Medicine – Tucson residency programs, including two at the UA Internal Medicine Residency Program at Banner University Medical Center Tucson and one at into the program at Banner – UMC South.
