The Department of Medicine’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee will be hosting a DEI Mixer on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, 4-7 p.m.
To be held in the HSIB Forum, the event will include a tour of the Arizona Simulation Technology and Education Center, also known as ASTEC, as well as a presentation by Francisco Moreno, MD, a University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson professor of psychiatry and associate vice president, U of A Health Sciences Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Also present will be Celia Valenzuela, MD, an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and vice dean, College of Medicine – Tucson DEI Office.
Additional comments will be made by Christian Bime, MD, MSc, DOM vice chair for DEI, associate professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, and director, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Banner – University Medicine Tucson, and Bijin Thajudeen, MD, FASN, MACP, DOM DEI champion and professor in the Division of Nephrology.
“I very much hope our DOM faculty, fellows, residents, post-doctoral fellows, staff and medical/undergraduate students will join us for a celebration of inclusive excellence,” Dr. Bime said. “We’re looking forward for a very robust presence across internal medicine and all its subspecialties.”
Dr. Bime said he was encouraged by turnout for the two Spark DEI Lectures hosted by the department Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, particularly Ruben Mesa, MD, president and executive director of the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center, who drew about 100-125 viewers for his virtual talk.

This event is approved for 2.0 DEI credits by the College of Medicine – Tucson Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
