Welcome to the Division of Nephrology in the University of Arizona, College of Medicine - Tucson.
Our mission is to deliver high-value patient centered care, stimulate innovative research, and train future nephrologists. Our core values are integrity, compassion, exploration, adaptation, inclusion, determination, professionalism, and collegiality.
The Division of Nephrology was established late 1970s, soon after the opening of the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson in 1971. Our division currently has 11 full-time faculty members. We provide inpatient care at the Banner University Medical Center- Tucson (BUMC-T) and South Campus; outpatient CKD and transplant care at the North and South campus clinics; ESRD care mainly at 4 Dialysis Clinic Incorporate (DCI) units. We also deliver specialized care for patients with glomerular diseases, kidney stones, and hypertension.
There are currently eleven active clinical, translational, and basic research trials conducted in the division, the University of Arizona Kidney Clinical Research Unit (UA-KCRU), and our faculty routinely publish their findings in leading nephrology journals and presents at national and international meetings.
In particular, our fellowship training program is both comprehensive and friendly, and our alumni have had extremely successful careers in Arizona and across the country. We currently have 6 nephrology fellows in training.
One of the strengths of our program is to have robust kidney-pancreas transplant program (operational since 1980s) which maintains excellent outcomes and attracts renal transplant candidates from other States.
Last but not least, I am extremely proud of the recognition we have received as a center of excellence for nephrology. Our national rankings in 2015 (41st), 2016 (39th), 2017 (high performing), and 2018 (50th) in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" issue, underscore the emphasis on patient care at Banner University Medical Center - Tucson. In my mind, it's a tribute to the hard work and team spirit exhibited by our faculty, fellows, staff and, very importantly, our community partners.
