Don’t Know What You’ve Been Missing on ‘Workplace’ App? Check here to see posts, video, photos and catch up!

UA image collage from Workplace by Facebook posts If you’ve turned off your notifications and haven’t checked your Workplace by Facebook through the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson website recently, you’ve been missing out on first notices about a number of happenings around campus.

Those range from events, promotions, new faculty announcements, farewells and photos from across the UAHS campus—as well as first messages on posting of the UA Department of Medicine newsletter, The Pulse.

Photos you’ll see range from the Class of 2021 Blessing Ceremony and viewing the Aug. 21 total eclipse to last night’s DOM faculty and med student meet-n-greet and today’s free flu shots at the Farmers Market in the UAHS Plaza and the Annual Buffmire Lecture with NYU’s Dr. Jerome Lowenstein, who met with several UA Division of Nephrology faculty, fellows and clinical staff afterward.

Workplace by Facebook—of which the UA College of Medicine – Tucson was the first higher education institution to adopt the platform—is a secure, collaborative social media tool for business that allows participants to communicate similar to an intranet, but with capabilities for open and closed groups to keep some discussions public and some private among specific work teams or research groups.

At the UA Department of Medicine, each of the 14 divisions have an open group for all members and several have closed groups for fellows, subspecialty faculty or research teams. There also are broader public groups such as Everyone at UA COM-T, COM-T in the News and the Dean’s Corner. One of the most useful is Using Workplace, an open group with tips and tricks on how to navigate the site.

Still haven’t accepted your invitation to Workplace by Facebook, check your email (first notices were sent out in early June) to sign up or send a note to Sheila Bustamante, sbustamante@medadmin.arizona.edu, to please refresh your invite. One of the first things you’ll want to do is limit or turn off email notifications. See a link to an article on how to do that at the bottom of this article.

Now, to catch up on what you’ve been missing, see the following offerings from open groups (click images to go to the post):
