Congratulations to all the winners at the 2019 University of Arizona Department of Medicine Awards Assembly, hosted at the Arizona Inn on Tuesday, April 30. In all, 36 awards were presented.
Among double winners this year were:
- Zoey Harris, a medical student who won the J.W. Smith Award from the UA Department of Medicine – Tucson Medical Education Office and the Outstanding Medical Student in Pulmonary Medicine Award;
- Amir Abidov, a medical student who won the Outstanding Medical Student in Endocrinology and Outstanding Medical Student in Infectious Diseases awards; and
- Tirdad Zangeneh, DO, associate professor in the UA Division of Infectious Diseases, associate director for the UA Internal Medicine Residency Program – Tucson Campus, and director of the Infectious Disease Transplant Program at Banner University Medical Center – Tucson, who won the departmental Excellence in Teaching Award for both the Outpatient Associate Professor and Inpatient Associate Professor.
Repeat winners from last year include: Nathan Coffman, MD; Elly Varma, MBBS; Daniel Orta, MD; Norman Beatty, MD; Meenakshi Dagar, MD; Eugene Trowers, MD, MPH; and Joseph Alpert, MD.
