DOM wins 11 awards at 2024 College of Medicine – Tucson Faculty Awards

[DOM winning faculty members at 2024 University of Arizona College of Medicine Faculty Awards]Eight faculty members from the Department of Medicine received honors at the 2024 Faculty Teaching Awards and Vernon & Virginia Furrow Awards hosted on the evening of Feb. 28 by the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson in the HSIB Forum of the Health Sciences Innovation Building.

In all, the department and its faculty received 11 awards. In addition, the Internal Medicine Clerkship was recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching. Scroll down for awardees and a mini-photo gallery.

The annual awards ceremony celebrates the commitment by the college’s faculty to outstanding service in clinical care; diversity, equity and inclusion; research; graduate medical education; mentoring; and teaching.

In addition to winners listed below, the Department of Medicine was represented by award presenters: Kevin Moynahan, MD, the college's vice dean for education and a professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine; Tara Carr, MD, a Pulmonary division associate professor, director of the adult allergy and allergy fellowship programs and current chair of the UArizona Academy of Medical Education Scholars (AMES) Chapter; and Erika Bracamonte, MD, a Pathology professor with dual appointment in the Division of Nephrology as the renal biopsy service director who also teaches in the Cardiovascular, Pulmonary & Renal Systems Block of medical student education.

And the Pulmonary division's Daniel Combs, MD, whose primary appointment is in the Department of Pediatrics, won the Clinical Investigator Award in the Excellence Awards category for research he's done related to Down syndrome and sleep disorders. He's also a member of the UAHS Center for Sleep, Circadian and Neuroscience Research.
