Come ask questions, listen, learn and lay the groundwork for future collaboration, mentorship and training in a wide range of health research subjects!
The UA Department of Medicine will host its second annual P.I. Poster Session—to showcase research by principal investigators across the department’s 14 divisions—on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Kiewit Auditorium in the Leon F. Levy Building at the UA Cancer Center.
Last year’s inaugural event drew a crowd of more than 100 people, including medical students, residents, fellows and faculty seeking to learn more about where they can get research training on areas of interest or collaborate with other researchers.
About 40 posters will be on display representing clinical and basic science to translational research on advanced genomic and precision medicine studies. “The key here is two tiered,” said UA cardiologist Jil Tardiff, MD, PhD, a professor of medicine, DOM vice chair for research, member of the UA Sarver Heart Center and BIO5 Institute, and the Steven M. Gootter Endowed Chair for the Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death.
“We want faculty to see what everyone else is doing in their own divisions and beyond, not only by people presenting but those who aren’t. It’s a chance to hear what junior investigators are doing, too. There’s wide representation. All divisions will be there. And it’s an opportunity for medical students, residents and fellows to come by talk to division chiefs, see what kind of work is going on and maybe find a mentor or advisor.”
Dr. Tardiff underscored a desire to see more fellows attend the P.I. Poster Session this year, pointing out the open format nature of the format.
“It’s not formal. There are no official presentations. So, that makes it an excellent way to really connect and get the most out of the evening,” she added.

You’ll see and hear research about everything from arthritis and asthma to cancer and diabetes to heart, kidney and liver disease—and more.
