Banner – UMC Tucson best hospital in Tucson, SE Arizona and No. 3 in the state again

[Image of Banner – University Medical Center Tucson]Banner – University Medical Center Tucson has been named a U.S. News & World Report 2024-25 Best Regional Hospital once again, ranking No. 1 in Tucson, No. 3 in Arizona and the best hospital in Southeastern Arizona.

It’s high performance rankings in adult specialties went up by four to five, while the number of procedures and conditions it ranks as high performing in remained steady at nine.

The 2024-2025 Best Regional Hospital designations are based on U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of hospitals in 15 specialties and ratings of hospitals’ performance in 20 procedures and conditions. Banner has been affiliated with the hospital, as well as Banner – UMC South in Tucson and Banner – UMC Phoenix, since Banner Health merged in 2015 with the University of Arizona Health Network, which became its academic medicine division under an agreement with the University of Arizona. The division is the primary clinical partner of the five U of A Health Sciences colleges — the College of Medicine – Tucson, College of Medicine – Phoenix, College of Nursing, R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy, and Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. 

In the latest U.S. News rankings, the adult specialties Banner – UMC Tucson is listed as high performing in now include:

  • Cancer
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Geriatrics
  • Pulmonology & Lung Surgery
  • Urology

And procedures/conditions BUMCT earned the same ranking in include:

  • Procedures and Conditions Related to Cancer
    • Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma,
    • Colon Cancer Surgery,
    • Gynecological Cancer Surgery,
    • Lung Cancer Surgery,
    • Prostate Cancer Surgery
  • Procedures and Conditions Related to Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery
    • Heart Attack
    • Heart Failure
  • Procedures and Conditions Related to Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
    • Colon Cancer Surgery
  • Procedures and Conditions Related to Nephrology
    • Kidney Failure
  • Procedures and Conditions Related to Obstetrics & Gynecology
    • Gynecological Cancer Surgery

Meanwhile, in the 2024-25 U.S. News rankings, Banner – UMC South was rated high performing in one procedure/condition for heart attack care. And Banner – UMC Phoenix came in second in Phoenix and Arizona and ranked nationally in one adult specialty (Ear, Nose & Throat – #32) and high performing in three adult specialties and 10 procedures/conditions.

The No. 1 hospital in the state for 2024-25 per the U.S. News rankings is Mayo Clinic Arizona, which ranked nationally in 10 adult specialties and high performing in 20 procedures/conditions.
