Congratulations to the 22 physicians from the University of Arizona Department of Medicine who were included in the 2023 Top Doctors as compiled by the firm Castle Connolly Inc. Twenty-one of them appear in the April edition of Tucson Lifestyle magazine. The feature begins on page 61.
Of more than 850,000 practicing U.S. doctors, the physicians in this listing are nominated by their peers and screened by Castle Connolly Inc. for this annual compilation of Top Doctors nationwide. Among criteria used to evaluate them are: professional qualifications, education, hospital and faculty appointments, research leadership, professional reputation and disciplinary history.
New Department of Medicine Chair James K. Liao, MD, who was named to the post last fall and took over in mid-January, is not in the Tucson Lifestyle listing, but has been included in Chicago Magazine’s Top Doctor list from 2014-2023, with additional honors under cardiology and aging. He was included as well in the book series America’s Top Doctors (13th Edition, 14th Edition), also published by Castle Connolly. A cardiologist, Dr. Liao, the UArizona Robert & Irene Flinn Professor of Medicine, is a specialist in noninvasive cardiology, peripheral vascular disease, and cholesterol and lipid disorders.
Singled out for attention in the Tucson Lifestyle 2023 Top Doctors list are Department of Medicine faculty who also serve on the UArizona Cancer Center’s lung cancer team. They are pictured on page 95.
