The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Social Hall served as the venue for this year’s poster competition, May 23, among Internal Medicine Residency Program – Tucson Campus resident physicians, with four oral presentations capping things off for the finale in Lecture Hall 5403.

The first-ever oral vignettes as part of the day’s festivities included presenters and their topics:

Judges for the oral presentations included three from the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine – Joshua Malo, MD, Salma Patel, MD, MPH, and Laura Meinke, MD – and the Division of Cardiology’s Michel Corban, MD. Drs. Malo and Meinke are associate program director and program director for the IM Residency Program, with Dr. Meinke also serving as DOM associate vice chair for education.
Preceding the oral presentations was the poster contest, with several other faculty members or fellows participating as judges and pizza served as food for the mind if not the soul. Among them were (with their divisions): DOM Chair James Liao, MD (Cardiology); Eric Brucks, MD (Inpatient Medicine, SAVAHCS); Olivia Hung, MD, PhD (Cardiology); Kevin Moynahan, MD (General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine); J.R. Exequiel “Keng” Pineda, MD, PhD (Cardiology); Franz Rischard, DO (PACCS); Ernest Vina, MD (Rheumatology); and Anthony Witten, DO (Inpatient Medicine).
Chief resident Brendan Andres, MD, who emceed most of the event’s activities, including the poster and oral presentations, will announce winners of both contests during Academic Half Day on June 13. Other chief residents, Mario Jaramillo, MD, Vinita Kusupati, MD, Kevin J. Moynahan, MD, and Chelsea Takamatsu, MD, also participated.
