Currently, all residents are contracted with Banner – University Medical Group as a PGY 1, 2 or 3 Resident on a full-time basis as part of the GME Program sponsored by the University of Arizona College of Medicine’s Office of Graduate Medical Education – University Campus.
This is a year-to-year appointment.
BUMG is the physician practice of Banner – University Medicine, Banner Health’s academic division that, in Tucson, includes UA and other physicians who practice at Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, BUMCT (at left), and Banner – UMC South, BUMCS—both the hospitals and outpatient clinical facilities.
Salary
The pay scale changes annually. Current levels will be available to all who visit at the time of their interview.
Malpractice Insurance
Provided by Banner Health-Risk Management while performing residency related activities.
Benefits
All house officers are provided several health insurance plan options offered by Banner Health including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life/AD&D, Flexible Spending Accounts, a Legal Plan, Short Term and Long Term Disability, 401(k)/403(b) retirement savings, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). For in-network insurance plans, the entire premium is paid for by Banner for the resident, spouse and children.
Vacation/Holidays
Each housestaff officer is granted 20 days of vacation yearly.
Meals
Meal cards are provided to house officers who are assigned overnight call duties.
Uniforms
The program provides two lab coats. Scrubs are obtained at no cost from Banner.
Parking
Covered parking is provided free of charge at BUMCT and TMC. Free uncovered parking is available at the VA & South Campus locations.
Family & Medical Leave (FML)
Residents are eligible for FML after one year of employment and 1250 hours worked. Eligible employees, this is job protected leave for one's own serious medical condition, or that of a spouse, child, or parent. Also used for pregnancy, adoption, baby bonding, military caregiver leave, and military exigency. Family and Medical Leave can run cocurrent with Short Term Disability if the leave is continuous and for one's own serious medical condition. Arrangements are made by request in writing through the Program Director's office in conjunction with filing appropriate paperwork through Matrix Resilience (888-295-7840), the FML insurer for Banner. Periods of leave may affect the necessary requirements for fulfillment of program requirements and Board Certification.

In addition, the UA's Recreation & Wellness Center (right), 1400 E. Sixth St., also is accessible. Another new UA athletic center, NorthREC (far right), opened in August 2019 at 1051 E. Mabel St., next to the UA Honors Village north of Speedway Boulevard and east of Park Avenue.
